Wiring from Irritrol RD-900 to Blue Spray
« on: June 05, 2014, 12:05:21 am »
My Bluespray came in the mail today and I got it all wired up and running this evening.  Everything seems to be running fine but I have two wires that I don't know what to do with.  I ran all 8 zones to the right connections, the common wire to the right connection and the master valve to the right connection.  But, I still have two wires that come out of the ground from my old system that I don't know what to do with.  They are labeled "ground" but I'm not sure if they are needed.  Right now they aren't connected anywhere but the system seems to be working fine.  Any ideas if this will be an issue?  Am I missing something?  Thanks for your help.

Where do those wires come from? Do they come from the power supply or the sprinkler wires?

They are not from the power supply.  Those were separate wires.  They come out of the ground with the other wires.

Also, the wires were connected to a place labeled "Earth Ground" on the Irritrol circuit board.

You can leave them out.  But if you want to connect them then connect them to the screw on the lower right corner.  That's our board's ground plate.

Excellent.  Thank you.

On another note, are their any plans for an IOS app for iPhone and iPad?  The smartphone native webpage is okay, but it would be really nice to be able to do it straight from an app without having to mess with Safari.

There are advantages and disadvantages to having apps vs browser.  We feel average phones and tablets already have too many apps, and users don't want another app to install and uninstall.  Also, we have to consider that an average person keeps his/her phone for about 2 years.  When he/she sells the phone, they don't delete the app at all, and that could be a liability.  Besides, with the advance of browser technology, we're seeing a shift from native app to browser based app right now.

Having said that, we don't rule out developing an app.  We'll do so when the situation dictates.
