Title: Another port forwarding question
Post by: tas99 on March 30, 2014, 01:36:09 pm
I have a basic understanding of port forwarding and have configured other devices on my network with that feature but I have a number of questions regarding the BlueSpray device.

1. How do I assign the port to which I want forwarded to the BlueSpray device? The IP for it is 192.168.1.13 an I want to forward inquiries on port 80XX to the BlueSpray device.

2. It looks like the device is assigned a dynamic address via the router DHCP feature. If so it's possible for the router to assign another address which renders the port forwarded useless. How do I make the device configure with a static IP?

3. There is some mention of BluSpray servers. Is a service available that would allow access to my device through their servers? That is a service provided by manufacturers of other devices and would eliminate the need for me to keep track of the dnamic IP assigned by my ISP.

I looked through the manual and couldn't find any reference to these questions.

Any help would be appreciated.

Tom

1. The controller's web server listens on port 80 (http) and 443 (https).  What you'd want is to forward (extrnal) port 80xx of the router to (internal) port 80 of the controller.  If you want https, use port 443 of the controller.

2. You'd want the controller to have a fixed IP address.  This can be done by reserving an IP address for the controller. In this case, íts 192.168.1.13.

3. Our server at www.bluespray.net keeps track of all controllers.  If you register your controller, you would have created an account with us.  Login to your account on our web site (Account tab).  You will see your account page.  From this page, you can access your controller without having to know the public IP address of your router, provided that you have set up port forwarding correctly.

For the starting and ending ports, please try 8000 and 8000 to see if it works.
